Aten: The Radiant Light
"Aten, the sun disk, symbolized divine energy and life. Worshiping Aten filled ancient Egyptians with hope and vitality, as his rays warmed hearts and lands. This radiant positivity inspired unity and gratitude, connecting people to the universe’s boundless, life-giving energy every dawn."
Aten or Aton is the creator of the universe in ancient Egyptian Mythology, and the first one God of known history, as during the reign of the pharaoh Akhenaton (reigned 1353–36 BCE) returned to supremacy of the sun god, with the startling innovation that the Aton was to be the only god, he initiated a new monotheistic form of worship, in which Egypt worshipped one god only called Atenism, where the sun was called the "disc of the day" where Ra was thought to reside, and the worship of many of the traditional gods of ancient Egypt was rejected. Aten is depicted as the solar disk emitting rays terminating in human hands, gifting blessings, nature, and life. The most important surviving document of the Atenism religion is the Aton Hymn, which was inscribed in several versions in the tombs of Akhetaton. The text focuses on the world of nature and god’s beneficent provision for it. The hymn opens with the rising of the sun.
